Walkoff Seals Win For Bladensburg Against DuVal Tigers Varsity
It came down to the last play, but DuVal Tigers Varsity was on the wrong end of a 13-12 defeat to Bladensburg on Tuesday. The game was tied at 12 with Bladensburg batting in the bottom of the seventh when Mendez singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
Despite the loss, DuVal Tigers Varsity did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Bladensburg had five hits on the way to victory.
Bladensburg took an early lead in the second inning when Jackson grounded out, scoring one run.
After DuVal Tigers Varsity scored three runs in the top of the sixth, Bladensburg answered with three of their own. DuVal Tigers Varsity scored when an error scored one run for DuVal Tigers Varsity and Jalen Brooks singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Bladensburg then answered when Chris P drew a walk, scoring one run and David Lemus drew a walk, scoring one run.
Macio was on the hill for Bladensburg. He went seven innings, allowing 12 runs on eight hits and striking out ten.
Chris Logan was on the pitcher’s mound for DuVal Tigers Varsity. He went six innings, allowing 13 runs on five hits and striking out five.
DuVal Tigers Varsity scattered eight hits in the game. Kalvin Reyes-Martinez and Marcus Hilliard each racked up multiple hits for DuVal Tigers Varsity. Reyes-Martinez went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead DuVal Tigers Varsity in hits. Logan led DuVal Tigers Varsity with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.
Jackson led Bladensburg with two hits in three at bats. Bladensburg stole 13 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Charles led the way with three.
