Coaching Staff / 2016-2017
Team: Girls Varsity Lacrosse
Position: Head Coach
My name is JP O’Hara, and I coach girl’s lacrosse at DuVal high school. While lacrosse is new as a varsity sport in Prince George’s County, it is not new to DuVal. I started the girl’s club lacrosse team in 2012 and have been coach since it’s inception.
Lacrosse is an exciting and challenging sport, and I am working hard to build a tradition of excellence at DuVal. Most of the student-athletes that start lacrosse at DuVal are new to the sport, and many are playing organized sports for the first time. My coaching is therefore focused on fitness, skills and learning the rules of the game. In this upcoming season, we will be building a core of experience that will lead us to success in the future.
For me, the two most important traits that can be taught through athletics are sportsmanship and perseverance. I always try to make sure that my student-athletes work to push past adversity, and play the right way: with respect for their teammates, officials, fans and opponents.
