Tigers News · Have you thought about applying for a gap year with City Year? Here are 3 Reasons Why – Presented by City Year

Working as a mentor and tutor with City Year is a great (and meaningful) way to spend your gap year between high school and college. Don’t forget to apply! Applications for this year’s program are due June 1. You can apply now at cityyear.org.

_

This time of year, it seems like everyone wants to know what you are doing after graduation. It’s often an intimidating question—one that can leave you feeling like you need to have all the answers and your life plan figured out. Taking a gap year between high school and college is a great way to gain perspective and purpose through and enriching experience.

City Year is more than just a gap year. Working as a mentor and tutor with City Year is an opportunity to make a difference for students across the U.S. It’s also an opportunity to grow as a leader and gain experience that will strengthen your resume and help you succeed in college and in your career.

Here are three ways you can benefit from a City Year gap year:

1. Gain Skills Colleges and Employers Value
No matter what career path you choose after City Year, your experience will help you prepare for it. You’ll gain valuable leadership and career skills that can help you advance and prosper in any field of study or career, from nonprofit, to law, to medicine to education. Build your leadership, communications, time-management skills and more.

2. Gain Perspective
“City Year is the motivation and focus you need after high school to find out which field you’re passionate about, whether you want to study in college or you want to take an alternate path,” Claire Dempsey, a City Year New York alumna who spent her gap year with City Year, said.

3. Earn Scholarships and Education Awards
Upon completion of City Year, you’ll earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, currently valued at $5,920 to help you further your own education. Additionally, City Year has partnerships with more than 100 leading university that offer alumni additional scholarship opportunities.

Already accepted into college next year? You can still consider a gap year with City Year. Many programs will allow students to defer their enrollment for a year to participate in service programs.

The deadline to apply to City Year is June 1.

Tigers News · 2018 Stadium Showcase Series

College Baseball Prospect,

Congratulations. You have been identified!

The I-95 Metro Baseball Stadium Showcase Series is for the high school athlete looking to fulfill his dream of playing college baseball.  Coaches hail from over 40 conferences & 20 states.  Each event will feature 95+ college coaches and 45+ NCAA D1 colleges.

The two events from 2017 have produced 99 players that have committed to play college baseball and to date have 139 players that have achieved their dream over the past two seasons.

Players and parents may think that tournaments are the answer but that is not the case.  Coaches want to see a wide variety of talent in one location where they can focus on each player.

Coaches want to see how players perform on the “big-stage.”  Events are held at premier stadiums where coaches and players can interact and players are able to perform at their primary and secondary position (when applicable).  All coaches are on the field in one location!

If you have questions, feel free to e-mail I-95 Metro Baseball at: info@i95metrobaseball.com.

Tigers News · New Website Look

Together with our partners at VNN, we’ve updated our website’s design to ensure that all members of the community are able to follow our teams. This includes being mobile-friendly, tablet-friendly, and ADA-compliant. And because there have been some changes, we want to make sure you know where to find your favorite stories and essential information.

 What’s New?
  • You can now access specific team pages from the main navigation bar without having to choose the sport first.
  • Menus, such as “HQ” or “Forms,” are now underneath the “More” tab on the main navigation bar.
  • We’ve added an all-teams calendar on the right-hand side of the homepage, called ‘Upcoming Events’ to help you plan your week.
  • Our social media accounts are accessible through the Twitter and/or Facebook logos on the far right of the main navigation bar.
  • Alerts are now shown on the bottom-right corner of your screen on every page. The Alerts button will show you how many new alerts there are, and when clicked on, will display all alerts.
  • The website is now mobile-friendly! Try accessing it with your smartphone or tablet to see what we mean. Maybe you already are?
  • Now that the site is mobile-friendly, the VNN app on your phone will no longer link to our teams, and you should delete it. To get an icon on your phone that links direct to our website, click this link for instructions.

What if I need help?
We’re excited to roll out the new design to you, but also know that there will be a little learning curve. If you’re having issues finding something, contact the Athletic Department.   Thank you for our patience and don’t forget to check out our new mobile friendly site on your phone!
