Jatiya Stewart is a Senior at Duval High School with a 4.0 GPA. Since her sophomore year at Duval, she has been apart of the Sports Medicine Program. During the tenure, she has grown as a leader and learned more about the sports medicine field.
Beginning work alongside Athletic Trainer Keith Hnilcka, Jatiya became an imperative Student Athletic Trainer for football, girls and boys basketball and tennis. In addition, she would go on to log numerous hours volunteering at Doctors Hospital assisting with sports physicals.
Currently under the supervision of Sports Medicine Supervisor, Troy Langway, Stewart has been promoted to captain of the Student Athletic Trainers and continue servicing the football team. Being apart of the program has helped prepare me into pursuing a career in the Athletic Training field.
Most importantly being apart of the only Student Sports Medicine Staff in Prince George’s County Public School District enabled me to learn how to prevent and treat injuries that any athlete may face.
Jatiya’s favorite class is AP Psychology because it is interesting to learn how people think and the different functions of the brain. Her expectations for the future after DuVal is to attend The World of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville, NY for a year and then transfer to Towson University in pursuit of an Athletic Training degree. Her favorite inspirational quote is from Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing is impossible”.
